My Cultural Vibration report will provide information I have discovered about my musical instrument. The report will give interesting information about the design, the comparisons to older instruments and the traditions important to my creation.

Can you imagine that a bottle can be transformed into a functioning musical instrument and also a cultural artifact? First of all, it’s a musical instrument because when you can shake the instrument it makes sounds because of the beads inside. Also when I beat it with a stick like a drum I can create a rhythm. In addition, it is a cultural artifact because it’s in a hip hop culture and it’s has hip hop logos such as clothing, language , and graffiti on it. My instrument is an artifact because a hundred years from now people will know that it was used for a school project.

You’ll be shocked to learn that there’s comparison between an African instrument and the shaker I made for an instrument .The similarities between the African drum and a shaker is that your supposed to hit the of the head of the African drum and also your supposed to hit the shaker with a stick too. Another similarity is that there is a place to hold each instrument. The differences between the African instrument and my instrument is there’s different decorations. There’s African decorations on the drum and on mine there’s hip hop culture symbols. Another is that there’s different ways to play the instruments. Also a different way to hold the instrument. You hold it in your arm. On my shaker you hold the top. Another is that you use the instrument for different reasons. The African drum is used for almost any situation that requires music or mimicking spoken Yoruba speech tones. Those are the differences and similarities between the African instruments and the instrument I made.

My shaker can be used as part of my cultural experience because close your eyes and imagine the Steppers performing at a hip hop competition against the most famous hip hop artist ever. Once every year we bring everyone together and have fun performing in the competition. The meaning of our tradition is to be the best of the best, to earn respect, and maybe to earn money by performing. For clothing we wear half black half white and hats where we’re performing.
